Marsha the Martian Concept art

This is the first ever drawing I did of Marsha. I was messing around sort of copying a pose of Wonder Woman from Darwyn Cooke. Her silver age sci fi roots came from a desire to draw a space faring adventurer akin to DC’s Adam Strange.

One of these days I will actually get around to writing and producing a comic book. This comic book character is named Marsha the Martian. She was born on earth, but raised in Mars and explores the galaxy looking for adventure. I’ve tried to build out the world, and this is some concept art.

I toyed with the idea that she had Ironman-like boots…I ditched this idea later. I just think it’s too extra. I was also playing around with the colors I wanted for her little robot companion.

This was me finalizing the colors I wanted for Marsha along with the footwear I wanted her to use. There obviously a misspelling here….I meant to write Marsha. Though I played around with the idea that her name was Marsa but on earth she goes by Marsha. I scrapped this idea later though.

This was me putting on paper all the different equipment and items that exist in Marsha’s universe with some labels.

Just fleshing out some more of Marsha’s world and equipment.

Just what her under armor looks like. It’s airtight, temperature controlled and generally speaking provides a layer of light armor. The uniform she wears over it is more or less for decoration and show. But this bodyglove is what provides most of the protection.

This was just some random ideas I played around with. Perhaps there was an Anti-Marsha from another universe or something. An idea I’d like to run with to some extent.

More concept art. I was taking heavy inspiration from Jorge Jimenez’ art style on this one. But ultimately the concept was coming into picture. I eventually got rid of the heels. I wasn’t really digging them due to it being kind of impractical for combat, adventuring and rocket boots.

This was when I really started to finalize the look I wanted for her. Though the jetpack I would eventually remove in favor of just the rocket boots per the original concept of her. Additionally, I ironed out how her robot friend looks like.

This is Marsha in the style of Jason Fabok….I’m a huge fan of Fabok…but I don’t think his style really works for the cutesy kind of Marsha I envision. Though perhaps he could make it work if he was working on it from scratch.

I’m not quite satisfied with the face on this one. I have a really bad consistency when it comes to the face I’m drawing. I really need to sit down and nail down a style guide for her face.

This is one where I was using a pose from Brett Booth. You can probably tell if you scrubbed through google images of my favorite artists I use a lot of Supergirl poses.
